Allying vs
doing it yourself.
Nobody knows your business like you, which is why doing it yourself works until it stops fitting in the day. Allying does the job for 30% of what you would have paid a hire, so the hours go back to the parts only you can do.

What doing it yourself does well
It is your voice, with nothing lost in translation. It costs nothing on paper. You know which customer to name, which photo to use and what not to say, without anyone asking. In the first year, when the business is still becoming itself, doing the marketing yourself is often how you find out what it is.
What it costs
Time, mostly taken from the evening. In a survey of over 300 small business owners, LocaliQ found that 60% spend between one and ten hours a week on marketing, rising to 72% among businesses with ten or fewer employees, and that roughly half have nobody dedicated to it [1]. Ten hours a week is a quarter of a working week.
Put your own number on an hour. At $60 an hour, which is only an example, 10 hours a week is about $2,600 a month of your time, before the cost of the weeks when the posts stop because something else came up.
We checked this on 2026-09-17. The survey is a vendor's; the arithmetic is ours and the hourly figure is a placeholder for yours.
The five things a job is
When you do it yourself, you are the employee. Here is how that compares with the job done for you.
- The tasksYou do the tasks when there is time. Allying does them every week, in your brand, whether or not the grinder broke.
- The availabilityYou are available at 11 pm, to yourself. Allying is in your channels, with its own phone number, and answers during the day.
- The accountabilityYou answer to nobody, which is why it slips. Allying puts every action on the record, with a daily note, a weekly report and a named specialist who answers for it.
- The judgmentYour judgment is the best there is about your business. Allying brings a specialist’s standard for the job and learns your preferences from every approval and edit, so it starts to sound like you.
- The reliefNone. That is the point. Allying is the moment you stop carrying it alone.
When to choose which
Keep doing it yourself when
- You enjoy it and it fits inside the day.
- The business is brand new and still working out what it is.
- Marketing is the product, as it is for a creator or a studio.
- A few hours a month is genuinely all it needs.
Choose Allying when
- It is happening at 11 pm, or not happening at all.
- The posts go quiet for weeks when the business gets busy.
- You would have hired someone by now if the overhead were not what it is.
- You want to see the first week done before you decide.
